Exfoliate on the Grounds of your Coffee!

George's Coffee Beans

Before you toss those grounds from the coffee you just brewed into the trash…check this out!

Coffee is GREAT for your skin!

You might have heard there are some benefits to drinking coffee, in moderation; but you might not have realized there are numerous benefits to using coffee on your skin!  As it turns out, more and more studies have shown that using coffee on your skin may help prevent skin cancer and melanoma-related diseases, it may help reduce or eliminate the free radicals that cause certain acnes, eczema and other blemishes; it is also said to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help with the regeneration of new skin cells on the micro level.  Coffee may also provide natural sunscreen protection; however, you should still use an approved sunscreen when exposing your skin to sunlight for any significant amount of time.  If you have cellulite, coffee breaks up the fat deposits, giving the thighs a smoother appearance and texture.  Lastly, Coffee is a natural deodorant for strong food and other odors.  So washing your hands and/or body with a coffee soap or exfoliating with coffee grounds will make you smell like coffee…but at least you won’t smell like fish!  Okay, that was a bit much, but you get my point.

Here is a quick and easy-to-make coffee scrub & facial recipe using ingredients from your kitchen

1 spoon full of Olive Oil (or whatever vegetable oil you have available)
1 /4 cup full of fresh Brewed Coffee
1 spoon full of Coffee Grounds (use the grounds you used to brew your coffee if you can)
1 small-medium storage Bowl with lid
1 Avocado (remove the pit)
1 mini blender (optional)

Directions: Combine Avocado, Brewed Coffee, Coffee Grounds, Olive Oil (or other vegetable oil) into your mini blender.  Use short bursts of blending until mixture is well blended (about one minute).  If you don’t have a mini blender, combine the ingredients in your small storage bowl and stir continuously for 3-5 minutes until well blended.

Apply:  Scoop a small amount onto the tip of your three closest fingers and begin massaging in circular motions around the face.  Make sure you get as much of the face and neck as possible, so scoop more on if needed. This is the scrub portion of your facial.  Do the scrub for about 5 minutes.  Next pack your face with the mixture and find a comfortable, quite, place to sit for 10 minutes.

Finally, take a clean, hot-as-you-can-stand, wrung out wash cloth.  With both palms up, cloth opened and resting in your hands, place the wash cloth to your face and take a couple of deep breaths, inhaling the steam.  Then gently bring it down over the face slowly removing the facial.  Repeat until the face is completely clean.  Follow up with a moisturizing lotion or cream!
