Denver School Of Science And Technology One Of 6 Finalists

Gov. Bill Ritter and Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien urged all Coloradans to support the Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST) in its quest to have President Obama deliver the school’s commencement speech this spring. DSST is one of six finalists vying to have President Barack Obama speak at its graduation.

“The Denver School of Science and Technology represents the very best in academic success in Colorado,” Gov. Ritter said. “I encourage all Coloradans to vote for DSST so we can showcase for the rest of the nation how the school is delivering a world-class education and allowing all of its students to achieve their full potential.”

“Let’s all support DSST by voting today to have President Obama deliver the commencement speech,” Lt. Gov. O’Brien said. “DSST is a great example of the progress and reform that Colorado is making in education.”

Denver School of Science and Technology facts:

  • DSST is the only "Distinguished" rated high school in Denver Public Schools.
  • 100 percent of DSST graduates have been accepted into four-year colleges throughout Colorado and around the nation, including the Colorado School of Mines, MIT and Stanford University.
  • The Colorado Department of Education rated DSST a 2009 High Performing High School, the only one in DPS and among only 18 in the state.
  • From 2006 to 2009, DSST students had the highest median student growth in the state.
