Thefts from motor vehicles are on the rise in District Five.

Thefts from motor vehicles are on the rise in District Five. This type of theft occurs throughout the city, at all hours of the day and night, and takes only a matter of seconds. In most cases, the stolen items were observed in plain view.

The number of thefts from vehicles in our city could be significantly reduced if owners would remove valuable items from their vehicles, including GPS devices, laptop computers, CDs, purses and tools.

You can decrease the chances that you will become a victim of this type of crime by following these suggestions:

  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle, especially in plain view.
  • Take your keys and lock the vehicle at all times.
  • Park in well-lit areas.
  • Park in attended lots when you can.
  • Completely close the vehicle windows when parking.
  • Whenever possible, park your vehicle in your home garage, and lock your garage door.
  • Consider purchasing an alarm system, particularly if you have installed an expensive after-market stereo system or tire rims.
  • Remove detachable stereos and face plates when leaving your vehicle unattended.
