What's Going On in Green Valley Ranch?

GVR What's Going On? 02-23-2010

By Tom Gibbons

There seems to be new construction everywhere you look.  It is especially noticeable west of Tower Rd. and there is a reason for this. Green Valley Ranch is roughly defined as the area north of 38th Ave., south of 56th Ave., east of Tower Rd. and west of Piccadilly Rd.  This area lies entirely within Denver County but it is bordered immediately by Aurora on the north, south and east.  The taxes and fees developers are required to pay are much lower in Denver County than they are in Aurora and this influences their decisions about where to build.

Put a little wildlife in a child's life... Environmental Learning for Kids or ELK does just that and lots more.  From teaching kids and families about science, leadership and service ELK engages and empowers residents in far northeast Denver, Commerce City and Aurora to pursue their dreams.  "I am proud of the work ELK does.  It's importnat to get young people out and involved in the outdoors.  There are groups in our society that are under-represented, and I'm happy to see diversity [among ELK's students and staff]."

How about a First Sunday Stroll and Bike Ride?

By George Goldstone, Neighborhood Economics Committee

As the weather improves in the spring we'd like to invite our neighbors to take a stroll or bike ride on the first Sunday of every month. Imagine taking a nice stroll in our beautiful neighborhood, talking to neighbors, walking the dogs and getting to know each other. We're thinking of starting this in the Spring of this year (2010) and would love to know what you think. Use the contact form here to send us ideas.
