Councilman Hancock's RNO Denver Better Bond Tour

On Saturday July 17th, our Education Chair, Thad Jacobs and I attended the Council District 11 RNO Better Denver Bond Bus Tour, hosted by Councilman Michael Hancock and his staff. The event featured information and timelines on projects awarded in the Better Denver Bond. Many of the projects have already been completed and all have been started. The most notable affecting the GVR area being the Parkfield Lake renovation, which is soon to enter its final stage of construction, the Central Park Recreation Center in Stapleton (construction), Montbello Library renovation (completed), and GVR Branch Library (construction). Also included in the tour but was funded under a different bond was the Dr. Evie Garrett Dennis Educational Center which is in its final stages of completion (grand opening August 13th and 14th).

It should be noted that the Central Park Recreation Center will be operated by the Denver Parks and Recreation Division and will be part of the Parks and Recreation system. This center will have 57,000 square feet with community and multipurpose rooms, a huge pool/aquatic center, beautiful mountain views and will even be LEED Silver Certified for a greener environment.

Most of these projects could not have occurred without the input (especially votes) of the public and the tenacity of Councilman Hancock and his team to seek to have these projects put in the bond and have them stay in the bond throughout the whole process from inception to completion.

I want to thank each and every one of our citizens for their input, caring, and involvement in bringing more and better amenities to the GVR area and making GVR a better place to live, work, and play.
